JBS Swift wasn't tracking carcass weights, grades or carcasses for cattle delivered to its Grand Island, Nebraska, plant from Dec. 14 last year until March 31, 2018, according to USDA. This affected the sale payments for producers who sold to JBS based on carcass weight.

The 2018 farm bill, the Agricultural Act of 2018, passed the U.S. House 369 to 47 on Wednesday afternoon with 182 Republicans joining 187 Democrats in supporting the bill. The House vote follows an 87-13 Senate vote for the bill on Tuesday, reflecting strong support for the bill in both chambers of Congress.

USDA Deputy Secretary Steve Censky spoke to members of the Iowa Soybean Association Thursday morning about trade-aid payments and the farm bill. The status of the trade-aid payments was among the first questions from farmers when Censky wrapped up his talk.
March corn was up 3/4 cent, January soybeans were up 4 1/4 cents, and March KC wheat was up 5 1/4 cents.
Hog contracts should open Monday moderately lower, initially checked by an assessment of large ready numbers and the uncertain adequacy of late-year pork demand. On the other hand, look for the cattle complex to slowly strike out with mixed prices as traders assess the potential of late-month supply and demand realities.
